Our Programs |
The Need |
Hope Hollow believes in programs which focus on self determination, education, recreation, art, music, dance, socialization, and community skills. We teach our campers that they can live a life of ability at a pace they can achieve. We aim to create an atmosphere of acceptance through engagement in inclusive and integrated programs. We believe that all children, including the undeserved population of those with special needs, should have the opportunity to experience the joy and fellowship of a camp that they can call their own.
We strive to have meaningful and purposeful camps and programs that make a difference, by creating programs which focus on self determination, education, recreation, art, music, dance, socialization, and community skills. We want to teach our campers that they can live a life of ability at a pace they can achieve. We aim to create an atmosphere of acceptance through engagement in inclusive and integrated programs. Our camp runs from 8 am through 3 pm. where each participant will get to enjoy specialized programming while being cared for by trained professional staff. The cost of providing these services is vastly more than the $250 we are asking you consider giving in scholarship for a child to attend camp. That being said, we are very aware of the already enormous expenses borne by special needs families in medical costs, special accommodations and other needed therapies. |
We want you to understand the impact your sponsorship of a child would have this year: While we have 20 acres to expand on, one of our biggest challenges is the lack of physical programming space that is accessible. Currently, we make the best use of the main cabin on our property to host about 15 participants with special needs at a time with trained staff and volunteers. We take great pride in our staff to participant ratio: At least 1:3 trained professional staff to camper, and a 1:1 buddy system, often 2 or 3, depending on the camper where we encourage volunteers 15 or older to come and serve in our different programs. With only so many people that we can accommodate at any one time, we have long waiting lists for our programs.
Last year we had over 84 spots for 6 weeks of summer camp, and we still had 34 on our waiting list. This is because we are unable to accommodate everyone who would like to come, even if they can afford our services. This year, we have had to limit each participant to two weeks of camp, although the need is so much greater. Your sponsorship of a camper will go a long way to helping us grow our program and expand our horizons so more children can come to Hope Hollow for Camp. |
